It’s interesting to me that the concept of getting back what you pour into the world is gaining a measure of popularity in modern culture. Though it’s often labeled “karma,” which is not a Christian belief, there is Biblical wisdom that underlies the principle of blessing another and having the blessing return to you. I think it can be summed up by saying that the more you commit to God, the more He will commit to you. Even if you don’t have much, when you look for ways to be generous with what you have, greater increase will come, either financially or spiritually. Therefore, as a disciple of Jesus who seeks to grow in your walk with God, I say give! Give to people in need. Give to the poor. Give to young people. Give to students who can’t afford a meal. Give to people who are struggling. Give to your church and to other ministries, and watch as all of Heaven opens up and the Lord begins to bless you in ways you could not have imagined.
My friend, there is no greater hallmark of a follower of Jesus than generosity. He invites you to hold your possessions loosely and fluidly so you are free to let them go and find your heart’s truest satisfaction in Him. You can’t take anything with you when you walk through Heaven’s gates, so build a legacy that is remembered not by what you had, but by what you gave away. Cultivate a heart that desires abundance, never for the sake of itself, but for the many ways it can fill the hearts and lives of others with the goodness of God!
