As we continue our discussion about calm leadership, I want to share another thought that I believe will help you: relaxed leaders are responsible leaders. This is just a theory that I have, but I really think that when people are uptight and freaked out, they try to control everything, which in turn makes them prone to rash and irresponsible actions and behaviors. On the other hand, when someone is calm, they are able to make well-thought-out decisions about what is possible and what is not. In other words, they can see far enough ahead to visualize possible outcomes, use judgement, and know when to say yes and when to say no. To this end, there’s an old saying in the military that goes, “He who tries to protect everything protects nothing,” and I’ve seen this play out in numerous different areas of life. It’s interesting that Jesus, as much as people clamored and wanted to get near him, never lost sight of His mission or His trajectory. He knew what His Father had called Him to do, and He stayed focused on His course while remaining sensitive to the Holy Spirit and able to respond rationally and thoughtfully to everyone, even those who tried to trip Him up.
My friend, in this time of confusion, conflicting opinions, and viral fear, the world needs a relaxed and responsible leader like you. Because you do life with Jesus and you know that there is always something better ahead, you remain calm and settled, even in the midst of chaos. As one who is anchored in the power of the Holy Spirit, you bring the salt and light of the Lord wherever you go, and since you know when to say yes and when to say no, you are able to set a clear direction for yourself and for others. The fruits of the Spirit abound in your life, and as you continually look to your Savior, you are bringing His presence to frightened people and introducing them to the Prince of Peace.
