Find Compassion in Community

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

– Hebrews 10:24,25

As we continue to grapple with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, I think it’s more important than ever to become an active part of a church community. Thankfully, most congregations have adapted to the precautions demanded by this strange time in history, and many have online fellowship groups for those who don’t feel safe attending in person. Unfortunately, 2020 was a year of social isolation, and though it’s important to be prudent and cautious, it’s never good to be alone. In this age of technology, we’re blessed with numerous ways to connect with people, and while in-person interaction is always best, finding connection online can be a great alternative — the most important thing is to cultivate meaningful relationships with other Christian brothers and sisters. To that end, I encourage you not to let any hurt, habit, or hangup keep you from seeking solace in a body of believers. Sadly, most people leave churches because they’re dealing with something that they feel makes them unworthy of belonging. However, in seasons of difficulty and struggle, it’s even more crucial to pursue love and acceptance among grace-infused, Spirit-filled believers. We are designed to “do life” together, and if we let that be our charge as we embrace the days and months ahead, we will inherit a much more abundant existence!

My friend, my prayer for you today is that the Lord will meet you in community. If you’ve never known the joy of belonging in the Body of Christ, I hope 2021 will be the year you find your place. Or if you’ve been active in church in the past but have shied away for a season, may the Holy Spirit illuminate new ways to safely find fellowship and involvement. While the world is relentless in selling fear and propagating the worst, Jesus wants to remind you that in Him, the future is full of His very best. As you surround yourself with people of faith who speak life to your soul, your spirit will be lifted, and He will empower you to step into the fulfillment of your purpose!

Prayer

Jesus, I need to be in fellowship with others. Give me the faith to step out and find involvement in a church community.

Reflection

How will you maintain meaningful connections to the Body of Christ in 2021?
