Healed Hearts Change the World

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

– Psalm 147:3

Today, we officially begin the countdown to a new year, and if you’re anything like me, I’m really looking forward to a fresh start. There’s something about the promise and possibility of the next season that fills my heart with hope, and I pray that it does for you, too. That said, as we look at the state of our world in these times, what we see can be disheartening. In addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, social and political wounds run deep in our culture. Knowing this, I believe now is a better time than ever to embrace the truth that every positive change begins with Jesus in us. There’s an old song that says “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.” While I used to think it was really cheesy, I’ve come to appreciate the profound simplicity of its message. When we tend to things within us — our hurts, wounds, brokenness, and bitterness — and allow God to shine His light of love on our hidden parts, He makes us whole from the inside. This means that every positive shift we want to witness in the world depends, at least in part, upon our willingness to “do the work” of dealing, feeling, and healing. Although it can seem daunting, this is actually good news as we embrace 2021, for it places within our hands the power to make the coming year better than the one before.

My friend, your life has the potential to heal others. As you open up the deepest parts of yourself to Jesus, His tender compassion will touch you, and He will bring restoration to your mind, soul, and spirit. When you welcome Him to shine light on your brokenness, He will bind up your wounds and empower you to be a source of hope and inspiration to those around you. Your peace was bought at a high price, and as you walk in it, you become a living example of the wholeness that a hurting and fractured world is yearning to experience.

Prayer

Jesus, I pray for your wholeness and restoration to prevail in my life so I can be a source of unity and healing in a wounded culture.
