Just Do It!

“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”

– 1 Corinthians 1:26-27

To build upon the goal of making 2021 a year of grace, today, I want to offer another thought to ponder. What if healing actually comes through stepping out in faith and serving the Lord? Years ago, I knew a guy who was an awesome bass player, and for some reason, he really wanted to play in our church worship band. However, he was outspokenly not a Christian. While this might have been cause for rejection in a different congregation, I took his enthusiasm to mean that the Lord was up to something, and I told him he could definitely play for us. Though it was unconventional, it didn’t take long before this vocal unbeliever surrendered his life to Christ and became a brand new man. It’s crazy to think that had he not had a reason to be in church regularly, he might not have met his Savior, and that means the many people his faith has touched would not have been impacted either. Having said this, I firmly believe that the Holy Spirit draws us to do His work, sometimes before we’re saved, and always before we’re sanctified. In fact, building the Kingdom is often a powerful means of receiving the Lord’s help in the middle of our own mess.

My friend, the next time you’re presented with a chance to share your faith, just do it! While that might mean serving at your local church, praying with someone, or embracing a divine assignment, don’t wait until you think you’re perfect to step out. Take the passion that’s in your heart, say “yes” to Jesus, and let Him use your willingness to bless others to bless you in return. Though it’s tempting to put off the call to witness to people when you’re in the thick of your own struggles, doing so might just break the chains that hold you back. The Lord doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called — remember that when you’re given the opportunity to do His work and it could be the most exhilarating year of your life!

Prayer

Jesus, thank you that I don’t have to be perfect in order to make a difference. Please give me opportunities to serve you.

Reflection

How might the Lord be calling you to build His Kingdom in the coming year?
