Build a Meaningful Life

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”

– Colossians 3:1

As we welcome the second week of 2021, we continue to look ahead to the possibilities that a new year brings. Like Peter, we can become rock-solid in faith, because we were taken from the quarry of Jesus Christ. He is unshakable, powerful, and secure, and so are we when we build our lives on the foundation of His truth. Though many of us have experienced major challenges and setbacks in the past year, it’s imperative to remember that these very challenges are what the Lord uses to craft and chisel us into the masterpieces we’re to become. If we look at people like Moses, Abraham, and David, we remember them not because they were perfect, but because despite their imperfections, they continued living for the Lord and for their neighbor. The ancient world was full of statues and stones put there by influential people, which — even today — cause visitors to ask, “What happened here?” Many once-powerful leaders built physical monuments to prove that they mattered, but when you live for others and for the Lord, people will tell your story for you. You won’t have to put up a stone, and you won’t have to put up a statue. God will remember what you did and it will matter.

My friend, regardless of how young or old you may be, you have a need to be remembered, and that’s natural. Though the world tells you that only an existence full of wealth and possessions makes an impact, the Bible teaches that when you love God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your might, your legacy will come naturally, and it will outlive you. The kind of life you’re called to embrace — one that puts priority on your family, your kids, your spouse, your marriage, and your hurting neighbors — is the kind most worth living. As you build your existence on the foundation of Jesus Christ and make His glory your greatest treasure, you become a monument to His faithfulness — one that points others to His Kingdom without statue, inscription, or stone.

Prayer

Jesus, teach me how to live for you and help me to build my life on the foundation of your Word.

Reflection

How will you let the Lord live in and love through you this year?
