Not only do I love the Lord’s Prayer because it’s the perfect model for us to follow as we approach our Heavenly Father but also because it reflects the heart of God. Jesus taught us to pray: “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.” Though it’s easy to gloss over that phrase, it actually paints a very powerful picture of the manner in which the Lord of Creation wants His will, priorities, and power to prevail on this planet. Many of us get so focused on reaching eternity that we forget there is work to do here and now. While it’s tempting to discard the future of the world, especially when it looks chaotic and uncertain, it’s important to remember that as Christ’s disciples, we are called to bring Heaven to earth — not in a physical sense, but in and through our spirits. And in order to comprehend the scope of this assignment, it’s vital to ponder what our eternal home looks like. From what we see in Scripture, Heaven is a place of beauty and abundance; there’s no sickness, no strife, and no darkness or night. And though this sphere will always be marred by the effects of sin, our Savior wants us to model the overcoming power of His Kingdom to others today. As we expect divine health, prosperity, and peace to reign in our lives through His Spirit, we become a microcosm of eternity that gives people just a small glimpse of the goodness of the Living God.
My friend, the Lord wants you to embody Heaven’s blessings on earth. As you consider the wholeness and conquering glory that prevail in your eternal home, remember that you’ve been granted the honor of hosting the Spirit of the God who presides there. When you yield your mind and emotions to the way of His Word and ask Him to make your soul His dwelling, He will demonstrate His love and majesty to others through your surrendered faith. Because you overflow with His good and perfect gifts, you bring His abundance to earth as you invite Him to shine brightly from the lighthouse of your life.
