Preparation is Power

“However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’— the things God has prepared for those who love him.”

– 1 Corinthians 2:9

The dictionary defines preparation as “the action or process of making ready or being made ready for use.” Though many of us don’t give a lot of thought to preparation in our 21st century world, in the Bible — especially the Old Testament — it’s a very common theme. The Jews gave time and attention to preparing their bodies, minds, and hearts for both worship and war. And while our culture is quite different now than it was then, I believe it behooves us to embrace the value and power of preparation today. As those who’ve surrendered our outcomes to Jesus Christ, each of us is in a season of equipping — it’s just a matter of perspective. Maybe you’ve been single for a long time and you’re wanting to be married, but you haven’t met anyone yet. Or perhaps you’re burnt out on your job and waiting for something better to come along. Whatever the situation, peace finds you when you shift your perspective from passivity to preparation. Though we all have times in our lives when nothing seems to be happening, the reality is that God is using perceived inertia to prepare us for our next assignment. There is no such thing as wasted time in His Kingdom, for He knows exactly what needs to be forged in our souls before He unveils a new season. Everything we’ve gone through builds on what came before and equips us for what’s yet to come!

My friend, resolve to be a person of preparation! When you get up in the morning, even if things aren’t going the way you want them to, change your perspective and see in your present circumstances an opportunity to become who you need to be to thrive in the future. Prepare your hands and feet for action and your heart and soul for deeper encounters with your Savior. He is with you right now, and He wants you to know that He cares about what lies ahead even more than you do. You are seen and never forsaken, so you can embrace what He is doing in your midst without understanding what the next step will be.

Prayer

Jesus, help me to prepare for the next leg of my journey with you.

Reflection

What are you going through right now? How might God be using it to prepare you for something greater?
