Jesus is True Fulfillment

“Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God.”

– Luke 2:27,28

Yesterday, we learned about Simeon and how he received a promise from God that he would see the Messiah in the flesh before he died. After waiting for decades to behold his Savior, the Holy Spirit spoke to him and told him to go to the temple, because his Redeemer had finally come. When he arrived, he set out looking for a kingly young man, which would have been like trying to find “a needle in a haystack,” since there could be as many as 200,000 people at the temple on any given day. Nevertheless, the Lord guided him, and a path was cleared that led him straight to Mary and Joseph and their newborn son, Jesus. While it hadn’t occurred to Simeon that Yeshua (which means Savior) would come as a baby, as soon as he laid eyes on Him, he knew he had found the One. Filled with the Holy Spirit, he swept the child in his arms and began to prophecy about His calling and His mission. Then, having finally beheld the Messiah, he told the Lord that it was okay to take him home to Heaven. Since every longing he ever had was fulfilled with just one look at His Lord, he could die in peace knowing that salvation was on its way to the world through Him. Even today, Simeon’s story is our story, for over 2,000 years later, we are still the blessed benefactors of Christ’s coming and finished work!

My friend, because you know the Savior of the world, you’ve been given everything you need to inherit an abundant, peaceful, and prosperous life. In fact, since He’s been revealed to you, whether you live or die, you can be at rest. No longer must you spend your time searching for passion and purpose, for in Jesus, you have it all. He is the fulfillment of everything in every way, and you will find an endless fountain of spiritual riches when you seek Him with your whole heart. Though He is vast and incomprehensible, He is daily pouring the fullness of His grace into your spirit, so that without striving or strain, you can become exactly who He’s called you to be.

Prayer
