You are anti-fragile! The thing the enemy wants most in your life is to keep you comfy. Now, don’t get me wrong, rest and relaxation are important, but in life, it’s the trouble and punches that make you more like Jesus. As Marcus Aurelius once said, “fire feeds on obstacles” and so does a believer!
Say you purchase a box of very delicate champagne glasses to ship to a friend across the country. As you package them up, I guarantee you that you’re going to take extra care to ensure that they don’t break during shipping. You will probably put them in a box, perhaps surrounded by bubble wrap and some styrofoam popcorn, and then tape it up. After that, you will make sure the outside of the box is labeled “fragile” so the postal and freight workers know to handle the package with care. You see, when written on a box, the word fragile implies a number of things, including that the contents have value to you, that they may be expensive, and that they are delicate. If the package is put on the bottom of a pile or if it’s bumped the wrong way, all the things inside could break and subsequently become worthless. Fragile things are often valuable, but because they are delicate, they run the risk of being easily destroyed. This is why you want to be anti-fragile!
Contrary to what you may think, the opposite of something fragile is not something resilient or robust like a bowling ball; that’s just neutral. Just as the opposite of positive is negative, so the opposite of fragile is anti-fragile; a state in which something, even when beat up and tossed around, gets better. For example, to continue our illustration, an anti-fragile champagne glass would be one that could shatter into a hundred pieces but somehow put itself back together, multiply into more glasses, and become even more valuable. Something anti-fragile doesn’t just stay the same when it gets beat up, it gets better!
Friend, because you are in Jesus, you are anti-fragile. You are of great value to Him and as He transports you from glory to glory, though you may get beat up along the way, your impact in His Kingdom multiples. When you step out of the box and shed your protective layers, He will strengthen and fortify you in a way that you could never have imagined, and you will do amazing things in His Name!
