Serving a Suffering God

“Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” – Isaiah 53:4,5 You and I serve a suffering God. We serve, as Henri Nouwen said, a wounded healer. And that is exactly what we are called to be. You see, God became human like us; He was crushed on the cross. He shared in our sufferings so that we could share in His healing. He shared in our death so that we could share in His life.
