Are You a Hypocrite?

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.” –  Matthew 6:5 Are you a hypocrite? If you know yourself well, you would probably answer “yes” to that question. Truth be told, we all struggle with hypocrisy to some degree, but this is especially true when we look at what the word meant in Jesus’ day. In Biblical times, the term hypocrite was simply used to identify a stage actor, not specifically to call out those who claimed to be one thing but lived as another.
