The Great Cloud of Witnesses
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” – Hebrews 12:1 Who is the great cloud of witnesses? This question makes many of us pause for a moment. In Hebrews Chapter 12, the author states, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses…” I used to think the great cloud of witnesses was like those picturesque medieval paintings, with the supernatural host of Heaven and angels flying around. It is that in part, but when you are with other believers, you are also among the great cloud of witnesses.
