One Yes Is a Thousand No’s

“He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.“ – 2 Kings 22:2 Yesterday we discussed possible reasons why the invalid man at the Pool of Bethesda made excuses for not receiving his healing when Jesus asked, “Do you want to get well?” Perhaps he would have lost his community of friends or the handouts he received from the pity of others. He told Jesus “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” You’ll notice he doesn’t simply say yes, I want to get well!
