“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire.’” -Hebrews 12: 28-29
Part of the human condition is that all of us are born restless. When babies are born, they come out screaming, clawing, and shouting: They are the rawest versions of our ourselves. As adults, we often try to hide this, building boundaries around the hunger that exists in our hearts. We’re yearning for something, and we assume this to be a bad thing, and we try to fill it by staying busy and having fun. But, the hunger is from God and cured only by God. We’re one side of a magnet and he’s the other, and we’re being drawn to him. We have a fire and passion to be reunited with God — and we can be!
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for filling us with a hunger to be close to you. Let us let you fill it, rather than turning to relationships, entertainment, and our work to fill it.
REFLECTION: Do you feel that hunger?
