“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” -Romans 12:2a

What about your life as a disciple looks different through the pattern of this world? Imagine someone pulling you aside and saying to others, “Here is a disciple of Jesus, different than what you normally see in the world.” What would they list about your life that would make you different? Would they even be able to call you a disciple of Jesus? Or, would they say that you simply fall into the regular patterns like everybody else?

I don’t want to be like everyone else. Do you? I believe that Christianity offers something unique. Jesus offers something unique. It’s about the way we interact in the world around us and the way we value things.

Very often, as believers, because we want people to like us, because we find our identity in what we do, what we have, what people say about us, we find ourselves mimicking the same patterns of the world around us. But, that world is dying. Let’s interact with the world not by mimicking others, but by mimicking Jesus, being his disciples, different from “normal.”

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I want to be your disciple, not like everyone else. I want to value what you value. I want to be like you. Amen.

REFLECTION: How are you like Jesus?
