“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

– 2 Timothy 1:6,7

Acting out your faith is the best way to overcome fear. Think back—how often have we felt that God was absent, only to realize later that He was with us all along? As we step out in faith, God intervenes. The truth is, faith requires action, not paralysis by fear. Fear is not from God; it thrives in darkness and keeps us trapped. The Bible says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” God wants you to live with peace and confidence—relaxed, joyful, and trusting in Him.

To illustrate, imagine an Amazon driver arrives with a box of black widow spiders and asks you to sign for it. Naturally, you’d refuse—“I didn’t order that.” The next day, another package: vials of smallpox. Again, you’d decline. Yet, many of us accept fear as if we ordered it—signing for it, bringing it into our lives, and even sharing it with others. We don’t have to accept what doesn’t belong to us. If fear comes knocking, just say: “I didn’t order that.”

My friend, if you’re struggling with fear, worry, or unrest, remember: you don’t have to accept it. You have the authority to reject it and cast it out. Don’t let fear take up residence in your life. God has given you a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Stand firm in that truth, and let faith, not fear, shape your life.

Prayer

Father, today I choose to reject fear, worry, and unrest. Let faith, not fear, shape my life.
