“He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”
– Ephesians 1:5
![]() Friend, if you know Jesus, you have been adopted into the family of God, and nothing can take that from you. I once heard the story of a young girl who was in the foster care system. She was constantly being bounced from house to house because any time she did something wrong or got out of hand, she’d be “sent back” and placed yet in another home. Finally, the day came when she was adopted by a family. They made it clear to her that no matter what she did, she was not a well-behaved guest, but their daughter. They assured her that even if she behaved badly, she would be reprimanded, but not abandoned. To make the point, they had her sign a contract to remind her that she would not be cast out; they would always be her parents. Of course, after she signed it, she started testing them. She did all kinds of naughty things and she got disciplined, but she was never rejected. Eventually, her behavior improved because she understood and internalized that she was loved and that she belonged. In essence, knowing that she was accepted gave her new life. This is what the Lord did with you. He signed a contract in the blood of Jesus Christ with your life and there’s nothing that you can do to un-belong. He adopted you as His own child! Isn’t that great news? |
Prayer
God, thank you for adopting me as your child. Today, I choose to rest in your unconditional love for me.
Reflection
What does it mean to you to be adopted as God’s child? How does it change the way you live?
