“John (the Baptist) answered them all, ‘I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.’”
-Luke 3:16
A soul that has been redeemed is like a pilot light. It’s always burning. Sometimes you just have to turn the gas on. Turn it on. Let it go. Burn for the Lord. Eighteenth century theologian John Wesley once said, “Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles to watch you burn.”
I remember my first flame of love when my heart found God. Spiritually passionate people live for their first love. And though you may be thinking, “You don’t know about my sin, you don’t know my skeletons, you don’t know about mistakes,” the Lord has not left you. God has atoned for that. Receive his grace. Receive his forgiveness. You are not farther from God than you were before. It’s all in your head if you’re feeling that way. You’re just as close to God as you always were.
You are aflame for God! You are a light for God. Let your light burn for people. Let your light burn.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I’m on fire with my love and gratitude for you. You know my failings and forgive me. You know my strengths and encourage me. Help me to share you with others who desperately need your love. Amen.
Reflection: Describe the time when you first felt God’s love for you and your love for him.
