“Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you.”
– Job 22:21
![]() Have you ever felt like things were finally starting to go your way when you were met with an unexpected crisis? Perhaps you tried for years to overcome an addiction, lose weight, land the perfect job, or start a business, and you made progress, only to encounter something that tempted you to “throw in the towel.” To all who can relate to this scenario, I want to say that you’re not alone, and it’s important not to give up. The truth is that when our aspirations and goals are being attacked, there’s always a reason, and it’s critical to ask the right question. Rather than bemoaning circumstances and hopping on the “train to complain,” God invites us to pray for His perspective and ask Him what He is doing in the situation. This is because, when things look the worst to us, He is often just starting to manifest something great. In fact, it might be that the very reason we’re being met with such fierce distraction is because a powerful breakthrough is about to occur — we just need to hold fast and let Him work. Instead of seeing through earthly lenses, He bids us pray for the enlightenment of His Spirit, and He promises to meet us with His presence as we earnestly seek Him. When we let Him lead our hearts and minds to a place of peace, we quickly understand that what looks like a setback is really a setup for something much better! My friend, nothing can keep God from carrying out His perfect and powerful plan for you. The next time you encounter resistance, opposition, or an unscheduled interruption, go to Him in prayer and ask Him what He wants to do through the difficulty. Invite your Savior to take the reins of uncertainty in order to reveal His very best, and let Him elevate your perspective and give you His surpassing peace. He has a purpose for everything that you go through, and as you look to Him, He will use worldly confusion to make you spiritually strong. |
Prayer
Jesus, whenever I’m upset, discouraged, or broadsided by the unexpected, teach me to ask you what you want to accomplish in the discomfort.
Reflection
Have you ever been assaulted by the unexpected in the midst of making progress? Did your response help or harm you?
