“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
– Exodus 14:14
![]() We talked yesterday about the fact that we have an enemy and that he is serious about taking down believers before his final demise. Today, I want to share another thought about that — the devil may have his eye on you because God has set you apart to do great things. Most of you know of my grandfather Dr. Robert H. Schuller. He was a great man of God and although he didn’t often preach about Satan, behind the scenes, he talked about spiritual warfare, the Holy Spirit, and angels all the time. There was one particular encounter with him on this subject that I vividly recall. It was when I was in college and I was totally on fire for God. He was getting older and he sometimes needed help, so I was walking behind him carrying his bags. We were going somewhere with my Dad and a few other people, and though they were some distance ahead of us, my grandpa suddenly stopped, turned from the person he was talking to, looked in my direction, walked over to me, put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Bobby, Oral Roberts once called me a prophet. I want you to know that Satan is not omnipresent. God is omnipresent. He’s everywhere at the same time, but Satan can only be here or there. He’s not everywhere. And Satan chooses certain people and he has his eye on you. But you can take that as a compliment. God will have his way in your life and it will be grand.” Wow! That got my attention because it was one of the first times in my life that I began to hear from and talk to other Godly people about Spiritual warfare. Friend, there is great truth to my grandfather’s words. When the devil has his sights set on you, it’s because the Lord has called you to do something great for His Kingdom! Don’t forget that your enemy is shrewd and cunning; he knows your weaknesses and where you are most vulnerable to attack. The good news is that although he comes after you, God is omnipresent so He will get there first! When Satan is on the prowl seeking to destroy your life, Jesus is already on the scene ready to fight for you — all you have to do is be still and call out His Name! Though his strikes feel like a barrage, the Lord has proclaimed victory over darkness through His Son! Isn’t that a wonderful promise? |
Prayer
I praise you, Jesus, for being my hope and victory when the devil attacks my life. I believe that you will fight for me because you are already at each battle site.
Reflection
What call of God on your life is the devil attempting to interrupt today? How can you have victory?
