“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” -Psalm 37:3-4
When you covet something, you often dehumanize the one who has what you want. You may think, they stole it so I’m only stealing from a thief, or they weren’t being fair and it’s mine anyway. Of course, these are deceptions. When we feel coveting towards something else — even if we get it — it can become a curse. It can make you more thirsty, more insatiable, more restless. You are not an entitled, greedy, angry, embittered person. You are a good person that can rejoice with others when good things happen to them, and you can be thankful for the good things God has given you.
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for the good things you have given me. When I feel like coveting what others have, please help me remember what I do have.
REFLECTION: What are you thankful for?
