“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

– John 15:5

Jesus wants us to be fruit-bearing Christians. A tree bears fruit when it’s planted, when it’s nourished and when it has sunlight. When these conditions are present, fruit comes naturally. It comes out of what it is already there. It’s a part of the tree being planted, having roots, and simply living.

Friend, this is what happens when you’re rooted in God’s love. When you live every day believing with all your heart that you are not what you do, you’re not what you have, you’re not what you’ve done, you’re not what’s been done to you and you’re not what anybody says about you, you can embrace what He says about you — that you are the beloved. Your position as His child will always be secure and the words He has spoken over you will always be true. He will be on your side eternally and His love will never fail you. This is the good news that’s at the heart of His upside-down Kingdom.

Prayer

God, teach me to abide in your love so that my life bears fruit naturally.
