“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”
-1 John 4:7
Once, when I was making a big decision at a critical time in my life, my good friend and mentor, Juan Carlos Ortiz, was praying with me. I was trying to decide whether to leave the Crystal Cathedral to start a church, or to stay at the church and keep helping in some way.
When I asked Juan Carlos for advice, he said, “If you stay at the Crystal Cathedral, you will be blessed because God loves you.” But then he said, “But if you leave and you start your own church, you will be blessed because God loves you.”
That was some of the best advice I ever heard. It really was. It’s the idea that we don’t live out of desperation or fear, but live from faith that God loves us! And that if we don’t have an answer, if he doesn’t open the heavens and reveal it to us, and we just do our daily work God’s going to bless us because he loves us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for loving me. Thank you for blessing me. I love you, too. Amen.
Reflection: How does Juan Carlos’ advice help you in your decision-making process?
