“The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the Lord said.”

– Deuteronomy 31:3

Yesterday we referenced the Promised Land, a special place for God’s chosen people who were freed from slavery, who had to walk across a vast desert to enter a land flowing with prosperity. When those enslaved people entered the Promised Land, there was one caveat I forgot to mention. It was full of giants. See, God will take you to the promised land, but you have to become a giant slayer on your way there.

We must understand that the beneficiality of the big goals God has for your life is not just what you achieve; it’s who you become. The promised land is set aside for giant slayers like you. You may say, “I’m not a giant slayer,” and you’re probably right. So become a giant slayer! Become who you need to be, one day, one week, one month at a time. Work into your life a pattern of disciplines and rhythms that create in you something you thought you never could become!

Friend, the promised land for us as believers is this: it’s focusing on God’s long-term goals for your life, easily lost by today’s temptations. Yes, there are a million and one things you are facing today that will get your eyes off the promised land and get them on various distractions. Be confident that God is excited, not just about what you’re going to accomplish in your life; He’s excited about who you will have to become to achieve these goals.

Prayer

Father, I want to become a giant slayer. Show me how to make disciplined changes each day.
