“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”
– Psalms 94:19
I’ll share a personal anecdote: I have never experienced more stress or responsibility in my life, yet I have also never felt less anxiety. Although the stress has increased over time, it has contributed to my personal growth. It’s similar to an athlete or bodybuilder who can lift heavy weights—they may carry a lot of pressure but I have never been stronger. I remember vividly when my son, as some of you may know, began his ongoing battle with an illness called polymicrogyria, which affects his brain. I still recall the first time he had a seizure at just two years old. It was terrifying to watch him appear to writhe in pain, and I genuinely thought he might die. We spent several days in CHOC hospital, and during that time, I felt overwhelmed with anxiety, stress, confusion, and anger. Having gone through this experience many times now, I can tell you that the person I was back then is not the same as the one I am today. I firmly believe that God did not make my son sick; that suffering comes from a dark place. However, I have faith that God will turn this around for Cohen and for our family. Friend, there’s a remarkable shift happening that allows Hannah and me, along with others on this journey, to grow and transform. Satan fears my growth into a stronger, more faithful person. I’m happy to say Cohen is improving significantly. The key takeaway for me is that, despite the challenges, with God’s help I’ve become a person I appreciate much more than who I was before. |
Prayer
Father, despite life’s challenges, help me become a better person than I was before.
Reflection
In what ways has stress contributed to your personal growth? Has the pressure you have endured made you stronger?
