“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.”

– Matthew 25:1-4

It’s important to be ready when great moments and opportunities come your way, and in particular, to prepare your heart for the Kingdom of God. Now when I say the Kingdom of God, I don’t mean just heaven and hell and the return of Christ, I also mean the things that are happening in your daily life. It’s crucial that you have oil in your lamp; to be full of the Holy Spirit so you can have spiritual ears and eyes to see when God is doing great things in your midst.

Opportunity is a rare thing, but when it comes and you take advantage of it, it can have incredible results. One decision can impact the course of your life for better or worse, so it’s essential to live in step with the Spirit, with a lamp full of oil, ready to move when you hear God’s voice.

Prayer

God, fill me with your Spirit so I can hear your voice and be ready to move when I hear you speak.

Reflection

How can you keep your lamp full so you are ready to hear God’s voice?

  1. In your reading of the Word and Hannah’s participation, I feel you both are reaching out in a personal and Christlike way to those who are seeing The Hour of Power each week. I save your TV talks and I find the prior ones you first spoke in the early building are my favorites. Lately, I’m not observing as much of Jesus in your homily, and I am patiently hoping you might revert back a little to those early days of your talks. Thanks
