“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
-Psalm 19:1
Author C.S. Lewis once shared about a time he accidently locked himself in his garden shed. In the dark and dusty room, all he could see was a beam of light shining through a tiny hole in the wall. As he awaited his eventual release, he wondered what it would have been like to be born in this shed. He speculated that he might have believed that the only thing that existed was the only thing he could see – this little beam of light.
As he continued to look at the beam, Lewis decided to look in the hole through which the light was shining. It was then that he was able to see his garden. He saw nature in all its beauty.
Lewis said that’s what our world is like. Some of us see only the most obvious things in life, like the little beam of light. But, if we look a little deeper, beyond the obvious, we’ll discover and experience all of God’s beauty and his many miracles.
Prayer: Dear Lord, open my eyes. Help me to see your miracles, your beauty, and your blessings. Amen.
Reflection: Describe a time when you were able to experience God’s beauty in the midst of ordinary surroundings.
