“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty.” -Jeremiah 15:16
Throughout the Psalms, you see that the Jewish people loved the Scripture. In many Orthodox synagogues today, when the Torah is being brought out to be read, people will jump up and down, having a Torah party, a Bible party.
I remember going to a church where Pastor Eastman Curtis would say, “Open up your Bibles!” And everybody would grab their Bibles and go, “Woo!” I remember the joy, and the thirst, and the hunger for God’s word.
And that’s what the Jewish people believed – if one generation forgot the word of God, their people would be done forever. The Scriptures are blood in our veins. It’s what makes our hearts beat and gives us life. We’re a people that God honored when he chose to give his word.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, your words light my way, guide my steps, and bring me great joy and comfort. Amen.
REFLECTION: What is the greatest affect that God’s word has had in your life?
