“Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”

– Zechariah 4:10

One of the attributes I most love about the Lord is that He makes small things big. With Him, even the seemingly insignificant events find purpose and feeble people inherit power. To this end, the story of David and Goliath is one of my favorites. Though the odds were stacked against him as he went out to meet a ten-foot giant carrying only a small stone and a slingshot, David knew the character of His God and He trusted that He would add supernatural power to the small thing he brought. With Goliath defeated, the shepherd-turned-king was launched to place of power and prestige that made him legendary; however, the big things he achieved started with a willingness to entrust His Lord with something small. Similarly, I’m always amazed that Jesus came to earth as a baby. Lying in His mother’s arms, He was tiny and helpless, yet from His cradle was born a Heavenly Kingdom that changed you and me and the entire course of history.

Never despise the day of small things, my friend, for what seems insignificant to you right now can change the world when the Lord’s power is added to it. Even if you feel hopeless or overcome by giants, offer Jesus the little that you have and watch Him make it into something glorious. Live your life with open hands, surrender everything to Him, and remember that the biggest things in His Kingdom always start small!

Prayer

I will not despise the day of small things, Jesus, because I know that nothing is insignificant when it is placed in your hands.
