“But Laban said to him, ‘If I have found favor in your eyes, please stay. I have learned by divination that the Lord has blessed me because of you.’ He added, ‘Name your wages, and I will pay them.’”
– Genesis 30:27
![]() Yesterday, we talked about the favor of God, and for the next couple of days, I want to share with you my favorite Biblical example of it. If you’ve been listening to me or reading these devotions for any length of time, you know that I love Jacob. Though he was somewhat rogue, this man of God was bold and persistent in his faith, and he was blessed because of it. In fact, he had a reputation for being divinely favored, and no one was more aware of this than his father-in-law Laban. You may recall that Laban was a trickster, and after he promised to give Jacob his daughter Rachel’s hand in marriage if he would work for him seven years, he gave him his other daughter, Leah, instead. Though Jacob was upset at this turn of events, his love for Rachel was so fierce that he wouldn’t be deterred, so he worked for another seven years for her. When they were finally married and she had given birth to a son, Jacob was ready to leave Laban’s household and go back to Israel, the land of his birth. However, upon telling his father-in-law that he was planning to depart, he begged him to stay, and his reason was fascinating. Laban relayed to his son-in-law that he had consulted with a diviner (or fortune teller in modern terms), and was informed that the wealth and favor he was enjoying were because of Jacob’s presence in his home. In other words, because Jacob walked with God, he was being blessed. Isn’t that an incredible thought? My friend, as you radiate the Lord’s glory and walk in His blessings, people around you — even those who aren’t seeking God — will benefit. When you yield your life to His service and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you, He will anoint you in ways that capture the attention of everyone watching. As you welcome Christ’s supernatural grace, you invite a greater measure of His might to flow through you and prosper others. This is the impact of divine favor, and it’s why having a daily, thriving relationship with your Heavenly Father is vital, especially in these chaotic and trying times. |
Prayer
Jesus, I ask that your favor in my life would draw those who don’t yet know you.
