“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”

– 1 Peter 1:23

One of the most amazing things that ever happened on Hour of Power was when Evel Knievel shared his testimony and got baptized. In case you’re too young to remember, he was a daredevil who did all kinds of crazy motorcycle stunts and performances in the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. He was super famous and uber wealthy, and he had everything a person could want from a worldly standpoint. Well, he called my Grandpa Schuller up one day in 2007 and asked if he could come on the show to share his story. Turns out he had become a Christian, and he was eager to let everyone know how his life had changed. Though he revealed many powerful things during his 20-minute-long interview that morning, something I’ll never forget is how he talked about earthly wealth versus knowing Jesus. He said, “I know that there is more to life than what I’ve had. I wrote a book called Evel Ways. I said I’ve had a life better than any king, any president, or any prince. Hogwash. I didn’t have Jesus Christ in my life. I was talking about the Rolls Royce’s — I had five of them. The Ferrari’s — I’ve had five of them. The Stetson’s. The Lamborghini’s. The jet airplanes — two of them. I flew one alongside the other so I could read my name on the side of them.” And his list went on and on. You see, he had everything he ever wanted in the eyes of the world, yet he would have traded it all for more time to commune with his Savior. He died just months later at the age of 69, but because he boldly shared his testimony that day, over 800 people were baptized and many more became believers.

My friend, now is the time to surrender your life fully to Christ. While worldly things provide temporary pleasure, they cannot begin to compare to the satisfaction that comes from walking with Jesus. Though it’s natural to desire money, riches, and prestige, they are nothing when measured against the surpassing greatness of being in a relationship with the God of Creation. While you may never “have it all” in this world, you’re a child of the Living Lord, and that means you’re more wealthy than the richest man or woman walking on earth. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is priceless, and abiding in His presence is the most wonderful way to spend the remainder your days this side of Heaven.

Prayer

Jesus, I believe that in you, I have it all. Teach me to walk in the abundance of the new life you’ve given me.
