“And I’ll say to myself, ‘You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.’ ”
– Luke 12:19
![]() For people who have reached the pinnacle of success in their lives, there is danger that lurks around every corner. Allow me to explain. Maybe you have a large amount of money in your bank account, achieved great success in your career, or maybe your ministry is flourishing. It’s easy to look at the silos; the things you have collected — the storehouses you have constructed — and say, “I have all of that.” But if you don’t have any seed in the ground prepared to grow, you are making a big mistake. The Bible speaks of such a man and the story is found in Luke Chapter 12. It is titled “The Parable of the Rich Fool.” It says a man has this great harvest, and it’s so abundant that he fills up his silo. He then decides, now that I have all this wealth, I’m entitled to eat, drink and be merry. But the Lord says “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?” Whoa, that sounds very harsh, but every single one of us was born to do meaningful, good work. Friend, it is so much better to plant some of the grain from the silo in the ground and know that you will continue to have a great future. Discover the work God has for you that will make a difference. Perhaps you have the opposite problem and your silo is empty due to unwise decisions or insufficient harvests. But as you plant plenty of seeds — good words in the ground of your heart, then you are about to experience good things. It’s God’s good seed that makes a purpose-filled future possible! |
