“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.”

– 1 Corinthians 3:10

Today, as we conclude our series on the types of treasures we are to build, I want you to acknowledge that we develop our treasures one brick at a time! If you were to create a brick wall, you place the mortar and set the bricks from end to end after the foundation is laid. You continue upwards until you have the desired structure. This is how we build ourselves up, brick by brick. When you read books to improve your character, that’s a brick. As you start the day in a courteous and caring manner, that’s a brick. When you clean up your desk or garage, that’s a brick.

Every day we practice these disciplines, we’re placing the building blocks in our life, forming who we’re becoming. I’m urging you to understand that the more bricks you place daily, the more you build something that people notice. It’s hard to hide talent, a good reputation, or abilities that people want to be around. You can’t bury joy or a positive vocabulary. It’s impossible to hide the characteristics that enable us to grow and develop.

Friend, let’s trust the pace of God. God won’t take forever, but He’s never in a hurry. Many accomplished people that you compare yourself to have been doing the hidden work of building themselves for a long time, but you just didn’t see it. We can ask Jesus to build into us the types of rhythms, books of change, cross-sections of podcasts and sermons, powerful prayers, and strong people that will help us become who we need to be!

Prayer

Father, show me how to build Godly characteristics into my life one step at a time.
