Behind the Music – I Know That My Redeemer Liveth

Reminding us of our living hope in the Risen Christ, soprano Emily Reed inspired us with a stirring rendition of G.F. Handel’s I Know That My Redeemer Liveth in this year’s Easter broadcast. The Artist: A soloist from Orange County, California, Emily graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in music from the Chapman University Conservatory of Music in 2014. In 2010, she was named a grand prize finalist for the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards. The Song: I Know That My Redeemer Liveth is from the third movement of Messiah, George Frideric Handel’s masterpiece, and most well-known work. Like the rest of its songs and choruses, the text is entirely based on Scripture, in this case on verses from Job 19:25-26 and 1 Corinthians 15:20. Amazingly, the 260-page libretto of Messiah was written in an astonishingly short 24 days! While he was composing, it is reported that Handel ate next

10 Transforming Truths from “You are Beloved”

We are super-excited about Bobby’s New Book, You are Beloved, coming out on May 29! Not only does it have the potential to change your life, but through your support, we believe it has the power to impact the lives of millions with the message of Jesus’ dignity, freedom, and unconditional love! Based on the Creed of the Beloved, the book was originally inspired by the teachings of some of Bobby’s favorite authors, Henri Nouwen and Dallas Willard.  As he learned from them, he began to focus on the truth that he was wholeheartedly loved by God. Eventually, he made it a habit to recite a version of the creed to himself every day. As he repeated the words that he was not what he did or what had, he noticed that he became a more joyful, content and all-around better person. So transforming was this practice in his

Moving, and Moving Forward

By Cameron D. Jackson, Donor Relations Ladies and gentlemen, my back hurts. And I’m pretty happy about that. As you are no doubt aware, Hour of Power and Shepherd’s Grove are moving to a beautiful location in Irvine. The last couple of weeks have seen our first church services and recordings at our new home, which has been an absolutely monumental feat, to say the least. But we’re not done yet! We have staff, desks, filing cabinets, files (lots and lots of files), and a few dozen other odds and ends to move. Thus, my back hurts. As to the happy part? Well… The big words buzzing around my head during this move have been “good stewardship.” The search for this new location began as a desire to save. We’ve been leasing the property we’ve been using, and the price has gone up significantly. To be perfectly transparent, the running

How long have you been with the ministry? I started work here September of 1994 – so about 24 years. What do you do for Hour of Power? I am a Ministry Ambassador, which means I get to communicate with our donors on a daily basis. Inspiring work, I truly enjoy and love it. How did God bring you to the ministry? Long story but here goes… I was going through an extremely sad divorce. I was going to my 1st court hearing at Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange County. I was horrified, sad, and broken-hearted. I felt this extreme need for God like I had never felt before! I needed guidance, comfort and strength. I remember feeling sick, nauseous and weak at the knees. It was my first time in the Garden Grove, so I wasn’t familiar with the area. I was driving around and got lost while looking

How long have you been with the ministry? 2 years and 8 months. What do you do for Hour of Power? I am a Ministry Ambassador, where I build and cultivate relationships with our donors. How did God bring you to the ministry? I had been working as a freelance fashion stylist and working part time for Banana Republic as a Visual Merchandiser also while in Bible college studying Theology and Biblical Studies, but I felt this strong desire that God was calling me into ministry. I had no clue where to look or where to apply. I just remember one day, a friend of mine reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in working for a church. I knew it was God! All I had was a desire. I didn’t ask or pray, God just opened up the door for me. What is your favorite

Interview Guest: Mike McHargue

On this Sunday’s (3/11) Hour of Power, we are delighted to welcome Mike McHargue as our interview guest! Mike McHargue (pronounced Mc”Harg”) is a speaker, author, and host of “The Liturgists” and “Ask Science Mike” podcasts. Mike grew up in the Southern Baptist denomination of Protestant Christianity. During his childhood, he didn’t have many friends, if any at all. Often bullied by the other kids, Mike found a friend in Jesus Christ. Trusting in Jesus and God, Mike threw himself into the teachings of the church, devoting himself to the Lord. It wasn’t until much later in life, in the midst of his parent’s divorce, that Mike lost his faith. After working for years with the church as an atheist, Mike acknowledged his doubts to everyone in a room full of his peers, and realized that he was not the only one who doubted his faith. After a spiritual experience at the beach,
