It’s Official – We’re Moving to Irvine!

We are so incredibly blessed and excited for this opportunity to join forces with Irvine Presbyterian Church and to further advance God’s Kingdom, from Irvine! Beginning on Palm Sunday, Shepherd’s Grove will be worshiping in Irvine and will be moving offices shortly after. We are trusting God during this process and can see Him working to open doors, make connections, and to make this entire move possible. We are certain that God is going to do big things in the lives of this church family, the people in the fifteen feet of space around us, and beyond!   We are so thankful for your prayers and support. Staff Spotlight: Kaylee Crownover

 How long have you been with the ministry? I have worked for the ministry for a year and a half, but have been a part of the church for about 15 years, since I was 5. What do you do for Hour of Power? I am a Data Entry Clerk for the Hour of Power. I also work with the youth ministry and children’s ministry. How did God bring you to the ministry? God brought me to this ministry through my Mom. She was part of the Crystal Cathedral Children’s Choir in Junior High, and later, when she had children, enrolled us in the Crystal Cathedral Academy. Interview (and Music) Guest: Melinda McGlasson

On this Sunday’s (3/4) Hour of Power, we are delighted to welcome Melinda McGlasson as our interview and music guest! Melinda McGlasson is an aspiring singer from Oklahoma. Voted “Most Likely to Win a Grammy” by her high school classmates, Melinda went on to pursue music on a full scholarship to Northeast Oklahoma A&M College. An Oklahoma native, Melinda was adopted by a Baptist minister and has spent her whole life in the church. Melinda would go on to serve alongside her husband, Dallas, as co-pastor of their church, Lifeway Worship Center with her team, “Lifeway Worship.” Melinda and Dallas have three children: Isaiah, Grayson, and Blake. While working with her husband at Lifeway Christian Center, her life would change after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and later with stage 3 thyroid cancer. I first came to work with Bobby Schuller, when I was hired at Tree of Life about a year before Tree of Life merged with Shepherd’s Grove. Behind the Music: “Bridge Over Troubled Water”

Wrapping up one of our last services of 2017, Maiya Sykes blessed our stage with a heartfelt rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” composed by Paul Simon, arranged by Marc Riley, and accompanied by the Hour of Power Orchestra. Sykes is a soloist from Southern California who has graced us with her fervent voice and zealous presence on many occasions. Sykes introduces the song: “This is a song I like to sing whenever I’m unsure about my path. It reminds me that God is my protector…God is always there for you, unfailing.” “Bridge Over Troubled Water” was written in 1969, where amidst racial and political tension, the art of music was used a manner of catharsis and revolution. Seeking solace, Paul Simon took one line from a gospel song by the Swan Silvertones and ran with it, creating a ground-breaking anthem to be covered later by Elvis Presley and Aretha

Interview Guest: Caitlin Leahy

This week on Hour of Power, we welcome interview guest, Caitlin Leahy! But before that, check out Robert’s Backstory Interview with Caitlin, where we learn a little more about her acting career, hobbies, and her favorite tv universes! Caitlin Leahy is a model and actress from Chicago, Illinois. A performer from a young age, Caitlin went on to pursue theater at the University of Illinois at Chicago before eventually earning her Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College Chicago. Not long after, Caitlin moved to Los Angeles to begin a career in film and television. Caitlin has found consistent work as a model for IT Model Management, as well as appearances in numerous television shows such as FX’s superhero drama, “Legion” and ABC’s sitcom, “Black-ish.” In her big-screen debut, Caitlin plays the role of Delilah in the Pure Flix epic, Samson, in theaters now.

Through an agency when I was looking for a job. What is your favorite part about working here? The people I work with. Do you have an impactful story to share from your job? I was looking for a job in 1991, I had a choice to work for Knott’s Berry Farm of Crystal Cathedral, I really wanted to work for Knott’s since it was close to my house and I liked Knott’s Berry Farm.   We are thrilled to have Sean Kappauf as our guest on the show this weekend! Sean is a teaching pastor at Capo Beach Church in Dana Point, California. His servant’s heart has found him serving locally and globally for a majority of his life. In 2013, he found a new mission after a humanitarian trip to a small village in El Salvador: to provide fresh water filters to the men, women, and children suffering from a lack of clean drinking water. He has a passion for helping suffering children who cannot help themselves, which inspired him to do more. Since then, Sean founded One ATTA Time, a nonprofit organization that provides filters capable of purifying 500 gallons of water a day to communities in El Salvador, Vietnam, Uganda, and the areas of Texas and Puerto Rico affected by hurricanes. Growing Together: A Visual History, and What’s to Come

In 1955, Garden Grove Community Church held its first service at the Orange Drive-in Theater. In 1961, Garden Grove Community Church held a first of its kind service in a new location — a walk in / drive sanctuary in Garden Grove (now known as Crystal Cathedral’s Arboretum). In 1970, Hour of Power was born with Dr. Robert Schuller’s mission to reach millions who couldn’t attend church. Arvella Schuller served as the program’s executive producer. In 1975, the Arboretum was overflowing with church congregants, so Dr. Schuller begins to execute his dream of building a new sanctuary on the property. In 1979, after overcoming many contracting challenges, the Crystal Cathedral held its ground-breaking ceremony. In 1990, Bobby Schuller made his first appearance on Hour of Power, singing “I Never Touched a Rainbow” as a 10-year-old.
