The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1

As we experience pain, wealth, comfort, and successful jobs, we lose our sense of adventure because we’re worried about what we might lose. But we forget that when we do that, we lose something else entirely. We lose our heart … our “coeur.” The French word for heart is “coeur,” and it’s at the root of the word courage. Courage means to do something even though you’re scared. And so much of life, so much of being an adult and being a mature believer, is doing things that you’re scared of doing. Because if you follow Jesus, He’s going to call you to do scary things — over and over and over. It never stops, but thank God for that. Because it is those experiences that build into us the kind of maturity we need in order to be world changers.

Prayer

God, help me to keep my sense of adventure. Use me to do scary things for your purpose.
