“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” -Psalm 119:105

I know that reading the Bible will bless your life and transform you into the new creation you always thought you were supposed to be.

Now, you may not think the Scriptures are for you but, consider this: You may be reading the wrong translation. Or, you may have started in the book of Lamentations, Numbers, or Chronicles, which may seem bizarre on first reading. Instead, start in something easier and more interesting like Matthew, Proverbs, or Romans. And maybe start with a translation like the New International Version (NIV), which I use most often, or even The Message, which is more of a paraphrase.

But, whatever you do, don’t give up on the Scriptures. These are God’s words to you, and if you give it time, just reading a little bit in the morning when you wake up, or some other kind of rhythm, you’ll find that it will bring tremendous life.

You cannot do life without a compass or a light, and that is exactly what the Scriptures are to us, to God’s people. They contain God’s promises to you that you are his beloved, that you will be saved, that you don’t have to worry, that you can trust in him, and that you can live the good life every single day.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for your Scriptures. Your holy words light my way and guide me through the tough times and the good times. Because of you, I’m living a good life each day. Amen.

REFLECTION: How has reading the Scriptures positively affected your daily living?
