Go in Peace
“But may the Lord forgive your servant for this one thing: When my master enters the temple of Rimmon to bow down and he is leaning on my arm and I have to bow there also—when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord forgive your servant for this. ‘Go in peace,’ Elisha said.”
– 2 Kings 5:18,19
Having tasted the Lord’s goodness, he was determined to serve Him alone. Elisha, hearing these words from one who was estranged from His Creator, must have been encouraged. Before Naaman left to return to Syria, the prophet felt compelled to bless his visitor and said, “Go in peace.” There is power in those three words because they speak to the tranquility that becomes us as we surrender our idols and commit to serving God alone. My friend, you will inherit peace of mind and heart when you lay your idols at the Lord’s altar. Though it’s tempting to hold on to worldly security in one of its many forms, the truth is that trying to replace the power of His presence with things you can control will always leave you feeling empty. As you surrender your heart, soul, mind, and strength to His keeping and worship Him alone, He will fill your spirit with a peace that surpasses human understanding and new life will spring forth as a result. |
Prayer
Jesus, I surrender my idols to you, because I believe that living in your peace is more important.
