“No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.”
-Revelation 22:3

In the story of Adam and Eve, the first couple was put on this earth in a perfect environment, before the fall of the world. Adam and Eve were placed here to cultivate and care for it. They were put on the earth to work!

Many people think we were put on the earth so it would care for us. But, no, it’s the other way. We were put on this earth to care for it. And I don’t just mean conservationism. I mean we’re put on the earth to do work that is life giving, to build projects, to create a healthy society, to earn enough to support ourselves and our dependents, and to help those in need.

That’s why I think there is also work in heaven. Many of us have this bizarre fantasy that non-work is the ideal; we believe that when we get to heaven, we’re going to stop working. But, that sounds somewhat boring, doesn’t it? After you breathe underwater a few times, go flying, and eat a feast without calories, then what?

What people don’t understand is heaven is so similar to earth, only redeemed. And I think when we get to heaven that we’ll be working there, too. We’ll be serving God and it’s going to be awesome.

Prayer: Dear Lord, the work I do on earth, I do for you. I will do the same in heaven. I will worship you and serve you all the days of my life. Amen.

Reflection: How do you serve the Lord on earth? How do you imagine serving him in heaven?
