“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” -Hebrews 6:10
It’s easy to think that when we’re doing little things — raising kids, doing small things in a ministry, reaching out to our coworker at work, our neighbor at our work space, or doing things like being a quiet loving presence for hurting people — that we aren’t making an impact. However, the greatest people in history are not the people like Julius Caesar and Napoleon Bonaparte. They’re the people like Dr. King and the Mother Teresa — are the true heroes. They are the people who served others and oftentimes died in the process of helping those in need. In the kingdom of God, the greatest people are those who serve, not those who are being served. Although we always want to look out for boundaries and we don’t want to neglect our own needs, God has called us to have a big impact in a deep way before a wide way.
PRAYER: Thank you, God, for making us heroes. Even when we are just doing small things for people in our lives, we are making an impact.
REFLECTION: How are you like our righteous heroes Dr. King and Mother Teresa? How can you be more like them?
