Don’t Abandon Your Dreams

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”

– 2 Peter 1:3

A long time ago, I worked for a financial company, and we would locate houses that were abandoned and in disrepair in order to sell them. Since their owners had typically let them go in distress, some sat vacant for long periods of time. I remember one in particular whose structure was less than ten years old but had fallen victim to litigation and sat neglected for many years, until it was completely confiscated by nature. I’ll never forget walking in and seeing the place full of life, but not the human kind. There were rats and bats and cats and dogs and bees and snakes, not to mention weeds and plants growing through cracks in the middle of the floor. Though it was alarming, it was to me an unforgettable reminder that some form of life always prevails in a given space, whether welcome or unwelcome.

My friend, your life is like that house, and your hopes and dreams are what keep it in order. Focus gives you the discipline, endurance, and stamina required to tend to your mind, body, and soul so that you can move forward. If you abandon the vision the Lord has given you, your mind will be overrun by weeds and uninvited guests such as doubt, discouragement, apathy, and surrender will quickly move in. Hold fast to your inheritance in Christ Jesus and keep pressing ahead into His very best. Focus on the course He has set for you, and remember that He is cheering you on from the finish line as He continually fills your spirit with everything you need to live a Godly and victorious life in Him!

Prayer

Jesus, keep my eyes focused on the dreams and visions you have inspired, and protect my heart from the discouragement that would cause me to abandon them.

Reflection

What dreams have you abandoned? How can you take ownership of them again?
