Don’t Eat Spiritual Leftovers

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”

– 1 Peter 2:2,3

I believe our world is more stressed out than it’s ever been, and in an effort to dull the negative feelings that come along with worry, many people have turned to withdrawal and self-medicating. The unfortunate thing is that this just doesn’t work; watching TV, getting high, or even having more fun won’t fix the worry problem because the underlying feelings are still there. In reality, denying and burying emotions ultimately makes their effect on your body and mind worse!

Friend, spending time with Jesus is the only way to live a worry-free life! No matter where you are or what your circumstances look like, if you are allowing Him to pour into you every day, you won’t be afraid when you hit scary, crazy seasons. While you may not have a sense of clarity, you will have faith and trust, and that will be the guiding force that gets you through. This is why your personal walk with the Lord is the most important thing in your life.

If you’re like me, you may be tempted to put other things ahead of the time you spend with Jesus, often because they feel more urgent. Your job, your ministry, your investments, and/or your educational pursuits seem to demand attention with their deadlines and pressing requirements, so your spiritual life gets the leftovers. However, the only way for these other areas of your existence to truly thrive is to spend time in God’s presence. When you are saturated in His promises, your stress and worry will be replaced by His Spirit’s truth. As you eat fresh Spiritual food, not leftovers, you will grow and bear good fruit! Isn’t that wonderful news?

I pray, Jesus, for the self-control and discipline to put you first in my daily life, and I ask for your power to be manifest in me as I eat pure Spiritual food, not leftovers.

Do you eat fresh Spiritual food every day or do you survive on leftovers?
