“The seventy-two returned with joy and said, ‘Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.’ ”
– Luke 10:17
But for those who belong to Christ, these fallen hosts are nothing to fear. Covered by the Blood of the Lamb and filled with Jesus’ Spirit, we have authority over darkness. When we sense spiritual oppression, we can speak against it and command it to leave in the Name of our Savior. I’m reminded of the old story about Martin Luther, who allegedly awoke one night to find the devil in his room. Calmly, he said, “Oh, it’s only you,” and went back to sleep. True or not, it illustrates the confidence we can have in Christ. My friend, even though evil may surround you, you have nothing to fear. Demons tremble at the One who lives within you. No matter how noisy or threatening they seem, they must submit to the Name of Jesus. Because you have received His salvation, you have been transferred from the kingdom of darkness into His glorious light. His presence within you causes the shadows to flee. So when fear comes, call on your Savior—every demonic spirit must bow to His Name, which is above every other. |
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for winning the victory over the forces of darkness. I will claim the power of Your Name whenever I am afraid.
