“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, ‘If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.’”

Matthew 4:1-3

I believe that when you keep your eyes on the mountain, your mission, you are able to be at peace with the fact that you’re not at your destiny yet. Even though it seems like everybody else is getting there, don’t hurry. You are not the one getting you there, anyway. The Lord is doing it. So trust in Him and He’ll get you there. I always think, whenever I read the temptation of Jesus, that His biggest temptation was to hurry. The devil is tempting Jesus to do something, right now. Like turning stones into bread, or jumping of the steeple. The devil says: “Bow down to me and I’ll give you everything.” You don’t have to do anything. In all these cases, the enemy is in a hurry. He knows his future isn’t very bright. But you don’t have to hurry, because time is on your side. Heaven is your home, and you’re going nowhere but up, as long as you go in the easy rhythms of God’s grace.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for your example in faithfulness. Lord, help us to not rush, but to follow your easy rhythms, as you lead me to my destiny.
