“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’”
– Psalm 91:1,2
![]() Did you know that you can live in the presence of God today? Heaven, while it is certainly a distinct place, can also be defined as where the Lord dwells. Since He lives within you and me, it’s safe to say that many elements of our eternal destination can be enjoyed here and now, especially through experiencing the powerful, abiding, and never-ending love of Jesus. In His presence, there is complete fulfillment: total joy, total peace, total power, and total life. Psalm 91 is one of the most famous affirmations of God’s presence and protection (I encourage you to read the whole thing when you have a minute), and interestingly, it was not original to David like many Psalms were. Instead, it was authored by Moses and included in David’s book of songs, so it was ancient even when he quoted it! The words of this well-known passage were sung by the Isrealites often, especially when they had to go to war or were facing a trial or sickness. Because it’s a song of covering and protection, it’s a perfect reminder of what it looks like to dwell in the presence of God here on earth. Friend, living in the reality of the Lord’s presence is a gift to you as a Christian. No matter where you go or what you do, you have a protector and provider who shelters you, sustains you, and keeps you safe. His mighty wings give enough shade to cover every moment of your life with grace and favor. I encourage you to remember, every day, that there is One who walks beside you to carry you when you’re weary and to catch you when you fall. Isn’t that wonderful news? |
