As we continue talking about what it means to die to ourselves and crucify our flesh, I want to give you a thought that I hope will clarify and simplify this concept — just focus on Jesus.
The day you began doing life with Jesus is the day you met the One who can truly satisfy your soul. The Bible says in Romans 1 that He fills everything in every way. In other words, there is nothing you could ever want or need that He cannot supply. Why? Because He is the source of it all! Jesus is the only person who can transform you into the best version of yourself because He wrote the manual on you; He is your ultimate life and identity coach. When He is the primary and singular focus of your life, then all the desires and wants you have are blessed because they point to Him. Through the lens of His Word, your work becomes blessed, your charity becomes blessed, and your kindness towards your neighbor becomes blessed! This is why you must do the brave thing and crucify your flesh.
Friend, the passions and desires of your flesh will never lead you to abundant life. Though it’s tempting to want your own kingdom where your will is done and where you don’t have to submit to anyone or anything, I promise you that it’s not what is best for you. Because your flesh was deceived in the Garden of Eden and the world you orient yourself in is now fallen, Jesus is the only hope of right-standing and restoration. He is the One who knows everything, and allowing His Spirit to take root in you produces a rich harvest of joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control! Isn’t that wonderful news?
