Focus on What You Can Control

“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

– Luke 12:25,26

Today, let’s take a moment to expand our understanding of how important our daily thoughts and disciplines are and how they affect our lives. Similar to a car getting a tune-up, our thinking could use a tune-up from time to time. Over the next few days, we will discuss how to do this. To start, what do you think most people focus on? Do they focus on what they can control or what they cannot control? If you are tossing and turning at night, chances are you’re obsessing about what you cannot control. So many things can consume our thoughts, be it politics, the news, or inflation. None of these are within our control!

The first area of your tune-up is to focus on what you can control. Take into consideration: Where your focus goes; your energy flows. When we pour our focus into things we can’t control, we feel tired and are unable to do our best for God. You cannot control your spouse or children, but you can control becoming the best spouse or parent. Plant the seeds of improving what you can control and allow it time to bring in a harvest of blessings.

Friend, it is essential that we focus on what we can control and how we can improve our lives as individuals. Learning the skills for improvement is possible with the help of the Holy Spirit. Access a Podcast, YouTube video, or read an acclaimed book for personal gain, advancement, and character development. Listen to sermons, pray to the Lord, and remember, “Where your focus goes, your energy flows.” Your life will continually improve as you get better at this!

Prayer

Father, help me focus on what I can control and show me how to develop my character.

Reflection

How often do you focus on what you cannot control? What skills do you want to improve on?

  1. Why can’t I receive your Daily Devotions in my email inbox anymore? I have re-enrolled several times and have written to you, but I still don’t receive them like I used to.
