“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

–  Matthew 6:3,4

One of the best things you can do to live a resilient and faith-filled life is to let go of your need to get the honor and praise for something you achieve. This is why Harry Truman said, “it’s amazing what you can accomplish if you don’t care who gets the credit.” Maybe you took care of someone in your family and they never thanked you, or maybe you accomplished something big on your job and your boss got the glory. Perhaps you’re a leader and you have a team, but you always want to have the spotlight — don’t do it; pass on the credit to the people you’re leading. On the flip side, when leaders of groups that you’re a part of don’t give you the credit, let it go — God sees what you’re doing.

One of the most powerful principles in the Kingdom of God is that the good things you do in secret will build up favor in your life and open doors spiritually. I don’t know about you, but if I had to choose between man seeing the good thing that I do or God seeing it, I would choose God, because He’s the giver of life and the One who opens doors that no man can shut! He can make it rain and He can bring opportunity, so stop living for people’s credit, glory and approval. Move according to the voice of God because wherever He is, there is blessing!

Prayer

God, help me to let go of my need to get credit and glory for things that I accomplish. I trust you to reward me.
