“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
-Philippians 2:3-4

The reason many of us hate work is that we view work as gaining rather than giving. Whether it’s your vocational work, your volunteer work, or work around the house, the purpose of work is generosity. If you hear anything about the subject of work, that’s what I need you to hear.

Work is generosity, even if you are paid. The work you do is giving, not gaining. The work you do is to benefit others. And if your work always takes this on, even if you’re creating toothpaste tops, I want you to view your work as generosity, something you’re giving to the world.

When you do, you’ll begin to see that if you change that perspective in your head, your experience of work will be a lot different. Work is generosity and work is for people.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to change my attitude for the better by seeing my work as something I’m doing for the world in order to bless others and you. Amen.

Reflection: Do you need an attitude change about your work? Describe.
